Week 2 of Results are in for Old Home Week - Food, Flowers & Vegetables. All entries are now on display for public viewing in the Women’s Institute’s exhibition area on the second floor of the Eastlink Centre until closing at 9:00 p.m. on August 16. Visitors may use the stairs or the elevator to access the WI area on the second floor of the Trade Center. The second round of exhibits were entered at both the Farm Centre and Civic Center in the early hours of Monday, August 11 as exhibitors delivered their entries as part of the Women’s Institute Handcrafts, Horticulture and Arts Show of the Provincial Exhibition. Remaining dntries including numerous classes of baked items including breads, cakes, pies, cupcakes, biscuits, cookies, and preserves such as salsa, jams, jellies and pickled items. Traditional and diverse flower and vegetable entries by the Island’s top gardeners rounded out this section of the WI competition. PEIWI encourages visitors to vote in the People Choice Awards for quilts, needlework, hooked rugs and art. Competition winners will be announced on Award’s Day, Thursday, August 15. The Premier’s Craft Education Award will also be presented for the eighth year. Valued at $3,000, this prestigious award will assist the successful recipient to pursue education and enhance skill in their craft. All are invited to the Awards Ceremony where special prizes and awards will also be announced on the stage on the main level of the Civic Centre. Since 1924 the Women’s Institute Handcraft, Horticulture and Arts Show has been an featured segment of Old Home Week and an important venue to showcase and develop Island talent.
