Week 8 of Season 2 Ich Bin Ein Ausländer! Whenever new people join the poker table, it’s always interesting. A new dynamic develops and certain poker plays, the 175 or 225 raise at 50/100 or 100/200 blinds shows that there is always a different way to play the game. However rules are rules and sometimes these need to be addressed; In come the Poker Nazi’s of Meticulous Mike and his better half, dealer button, cut card, adjusting string bets, placing chips in front/behind line, table balancing and order of play, checking chip count, clock timer, prize money distribution, etc. All addressed and without any real arguments about anything. That said, Mike was only pointing out the rules and his warm personality shone through and although he may have ruffled a few feathers, he went on to win on the night. This could be beginners luck or the fact that a new face always has a slight edge because no one’s had chance to suss out the way they play yet. He simply needs to show up again to prove it’s not just a flash in the pan. However, as Mike’s not signed up to the league, everyone got a step up the points ladder. The Cards were in the air at 8pm and Big Bad Barry was the first to do ‘The Walk of Shame’ and quickly got rid of his re-stack before the third blind level. Malcolm wasn’t far behind, then the break came with some meat skewers and chips. Play resumed and the field started to thin. When Merv lost his chips, the final table was formed. There was quite a bit of conservative play, but as the stacks got smaller, a multi-way pot developed Madem, Keith, Jamie and Rob All-in. Rob had the others covered and pocket Jacks. AK, AJ, A7. With no help from the board, the Hooks held-up and Rob took out all three in one go. Emma moves up a place into third in the league above the Card Cooler. Owen was next to leave the table, but the points secure him second. The Terminator was sent to the rail next, amazed that he got this far without shooting anyone. From his earlier play, Rob deserved the win, however a number of ridiculous hands, 94 against KJ the board pairs Rob’s King, but also the Demon’s 9 and 4. Such is life, such is poker. However crazy cards and crazy play continued and Meticulous Mike got the chips in with the worse hand, only to suck out. In other news; There’s plenty of life in this season’s league yet. redtoothpoker/publeague.asp?venue=2086
