However, each person must have a free Eastbay Works membership card. Those coming for the first time should arrive 15 minutes early to register at caljobs.ca.gov and get an Eastbay Works card. Basic Internet – Learn to use the Internet as an effective job search tool. Monday, June 16, 11:30am-1:00pm MS Word for Job Search – Hone your skills on Microsoft Word by learning how to create documents to be placed online, how to use shortcuts to save time, how to use the various tools that Word has to offer, and other tricks of the trade. Monday, June 16, 1:00pm-2:30pm New CalJOBS – The Employment Development Department’s new electronic job matching system is better than ever. Create your resume, search the database for jobs that interest you and let employers also find you for positions that match your skills. Monday, June 16, 3:00pm-4:30pm JVIS (Jackson Vocational Interest Survey) – Take this survey to assess how your interests relate to different career fields. Each question asks which of two tasks you would prefer to do: Build things with your hands or design spreadsheets on the computer? Work alone or as part of a team? Star in a movie or fly a plane? At the end, you are presented with a list of career fields which most closely match your unique set of interests! Allow 60-90 minutes for this assessment. Tuesday, June 17, 12:00pm Working for a Non-Profit – Identify jobs in the nonprofit sector, consider agencies from A to Z, discover job titles that may work for you and learn which websites are useful for locating positions. Tuesday, June 17, 1:30pm-3:00pm Job Search Strategies – Work smarter, not harder – or both! Learn how to find job openings, identify employers, and get organized in your job search. The right strategy can help lead you to the future you are looking for. Tuesday, June 17, 3:15pm-4:45pm Key Train – Assess and build on your reading and math skills. Receive a report at the end stating your current skill level. Wednesday, June 18, 9:00am Third Quarter of Life: New Beginnings – What do you want to do with the rest of your life? Look at your options, explore the possibilities, and dare to dream! Consider your situation, desires, passions, and strengths, and come up with a plan for what to do next on your road through life. Wednesday, June 18, 11:30am-1:30pm Career Center Services – Learn about the resources of the many partners of this center, as well as how to access individualized services. Wednesday, June 18, 1:30pm Social Networking/LinkedIn – De-mystify online networking by setting up an account on LinkedIn and learning how to use it as a job-search tool. Wednesday, June 18, 3:00pm-4:30pm Electronic Employment Applications – Learn how to appropriately fill out electronic applications and ensure that they actually get read by the right people. Friday, June 20, 9:30am-11:00am WinWay Resume – Create a resume which highlights your own unique skills and work history in order to bring you closer to your career objectives.
