Weekly Justice Challenge 29th Week in Ordinary Time Justice Challenge: Today we celebrate World Mission Sunday, and this week we celebrate the feast of Saint Anthony of Claret, a Spanish missionary and founder of the religious institute of missionaries known today as the Claretians. When he was appointed as head of the Archdiocese of Santiago in Cuba, Anthony began to work against slavery and the abuse of women. He also had the courage to teach the black slaves. When a hired assassin attempted to kill him for this, Anthony forgave him, even getting the man’s death sentence commuted to a prison term. Anthony advocated for family-owned farms for the poor of Cuba, believing that if they produced a variety of foods they could feed their families and sell the rest on the market to become self-sufficient. Your challenge this week is to be missionaries—sent by God to bring the Good News to someone in need of hearing it. But, like Anthony and the missionaries of today, you need to address the physical needs of those who need you as well as their spiritual needs. Think of one thing you can do to accomplish both (e.g., serving at a homeless shelter, then sitting down to eat with a guest at the shelter and sharing something you love about your faith or about God). Holy Family Ministry Connection: Like Saint Anthony Mary Claret, Holy Family serves the imprisoned both at the County Jail and at Taycheedah Correctional Institute, sharing our faith and providing opportunities for Catechesis and the Sacraments. Our presence there also offers hope and love to those who otherwise would not find hope or feel loved. Do you feel called to share your faith in this manner?
