Welcome everyone to the first BLOG Episode of Sports Talk with D-Block. Tonight im going to talk about a subject that is on everyones mind and that is the subject of the NFL. We miss you. You need to hurry and come back. In all seriousness i will be talking today about the upcoming 2013-2014 season, but this ladies and gentlemen will not be any ordinary season, oh no no no, a new award winner is going to be crowned for the first time ever. It is going to be a stepping stone for any young player in the NFL, or a Stamp of legecy for a wise, and seasoned Veteran. The Deacon Jones Award- awarded to the player that leads the league in what has become a pinical of manhood in todays modern era, SACKS. Im going to put together a list of my top 5 players that i believe has a bonefied chance at this newly found glory. Starting at #5 5. Cameron Wake- Defensive End (MIAMI) This man has consistently been racking up sacks (15.0 in 2012)and tackle for losses ever since setting foot as an Undrafted Free Agent for the Miami Dolphins. With newly signed players in Vaughn Martin from San Diego and Dannell Ellerbe from Baltimore taking some of the presser off i look for hm to have a solid year. 4. Elvis Dumervil/ Terrel Suggs- R/LOLB (Baltimore) The reason i have these two men tied at 4th is the fact the both men put up solid numbers in the past three years. With the addition of Dumervil to the Ravens, you cant help but think one of two things: either teams will cover Dumervil and Suggs will get set free, or teams will be hesitent with Suggs and his ability to single handedly confuse an offense and that means that Dumervil will make the Denver Broncos regret ever sticking with a fax machine to handle its contract negotiations. 3. Von Miller- Linebacker (Denver) This kid is young, fast and hungry to be a star on this team. With Dumervil in Baltimore im sure Miller is going to have his sights on making his 2012 sack number (18.5) look like childs play this coming season. 2. J.J. Watt- Defensive End (Houston) This kid is the defending champion of last season with 20.5 sacks and with the new defense getting stronger with the signing of Ed Reed (BAL) and resignings of noteable players from the teams 29th ranked defense im looking for Watt to have a BEAST of a year. 1. Aldon Smith- Linebacker (San Francisco) With 19.5 Sacks last year and this defense not slowing down in the next 5 years, The only thing that will stop him from getting this award will be staying healthy. He could also kill two birds with one stone and not only win this award, but also crush the Single Season Sack record held by Michael Strahan(22.5) in 2001. That will do it for this episode.
