Welcome to BIU Central Library Introduction : Bangladesh Islami University Central Library is the heart of the university. The Library has grown over the years since 2005 and now has become one of the famous university libraries in the country. The mission of the library is to promote and provide comprehensive resources and services in support of the research, teaching and learning needs of the university and more directly to contribute to the educational mission of the BIU. The vision of the library is to develop a world class knowledge resources centre and provide innovative new services and collections to the teaching, learning and research communities, using the latest information and technological development. The BIU Central Library is now functioning as automation system through library management software developed by university IT division. Location of the Library : The BIU Central Library is located at the 8th floor of the university main building, possessing a secured and congenial silent environment for acquiring knowledge. In order to ensure security of the library and its resources closed circuit TV camera operates inside the library. Opening Hours : The BIU Central Library remains opened 6 (six) working days from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm except Monday, the weekly holiday. From1.00pm to 2.00pm there is prayer and luncheon break on each working day but on Friday it is from1.00pm to 2.30pm for Jumma prayer. Library remains closed on public holidays and any other day notified by the university authority. Services : The following services are available in BIU Central Library : Circulation service, reference service, user guidance & information service, reading room service, CD/VCD borrowing service and news providing service etc. Collections : A total of 34,160 books, 565 Journals and Reports, a large number of statistical guide books and documents, 350 CD/DVD, audio cassettes and related materials are there in the library. These collections are specially related to liberal arts, social sciences, commerce, (particularly: business, management, marketing, accounting, economics, finance etc), law, Islamic studies, history & culture, English language and literature, computer science, EEE and Bangladesh studies. Library organization : The BIU Central Library is using DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) system to organize and arrange books, journals and other information resources. The book catalogue is open for the users to search research materials. Membership Procedure User has to fill up a prescribed Membership form available at circulation section of the library and submit it along with two stamp size photographs. User will get two library cards one for home issue and another for reading room service. Every student can borrow maximum three books against home issue card for the full semester and two books against reading room card. Library card cannot be transferred to anybody for use. If any student loses his / her library card he/she must inform the Librarian in writing about the loss and he/she will have to pay Tk-50 as charge for issuing new library card. The library card must be produced for library clearance; no clearance certificate will be issued without library card. Library users and library staff should behave in a decent manner to keep the library environment beautiful and attractive. Every user should take proper care of all library materials. For any kind of complaint or consultation kindly contact the Librarian. User activities are closely monitored and observed through CCTV Camera. Library rules and regulations : Personal bags, books and other materials are not allowed inside the library. These materials must be kept in the shelf outside the library. Students shall have to write self identification in the register before they enter into the library. Side talking, loudly speaking, gossiping, chanting and talking over mobile phone are prohibited in the library. Eating, drinking and smoking are strictly prohibited in the library. Cutting, copying and overwriting on library books or materials are strictly prohibited. Books are kept open in the book shelf, every user should find out necessary books by himself but need not keep or rearrange the books in the shelf again. The library officials must help the users on query and call. Reference books/ resources/materials are issued only for reading room but are not to be issued for home service. User can not borrow two books with same title and same author against one library card. The borrowers should return issued books/ materials as fresh as they were at the time of issuing. The students must return issued books/ resources before the last day the semester final exam, otherwise they will have to pay late fine and their results will be held up. If any student fails to return borrowed books or any items by due date he/she will have to pay a fine of Tk-2.00 per book/ item per day as late fine. The late fine must be deposited in the university accounts section through money receipt and the said receipt submitted to the library for clearance as required under rule. If any user loses or damages any item of library resources he/she will have to replace it afresh with 20% service charge and if any one fails to replace it by an acceptable means or manner he/ she will have to pay current value of lost or damaged item with 30% service charge. Good behavior is a must with library staff for smooth library service. Any kind of misbehavior is prohibited in the library and it will be properly dealt with according to university rules and regulations. ***The University authority reserves every right to change or edit any rules/policy mentioned above.
