Welcome to our Monday Wildebeest Migration update from the Northern Serengeti and the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The air is warm, thick and sluggish.A faint breeze beats the face so lovely. The rain begin to fall steadily coming into contact with the red Earth of Africa spreading its arms through the cathedral trees that stand in serried ranks. As far as the eyes can see herds of wildebeest stretches to the south in inscrutable infinity merging with the unbroken vista of savanna towards the flawless blue sky. Major crossing had been happening at no 3,7,8 and Makutano. An estimate of 4000 to 6000 have been crossing each day.The movement are southbound despite all the rains around Kogatende.Flying from Arusha on the 4th of October some herds have already reached Moru Kusini, Ndutu and Seronera with herds all the way to Kagatende Airstrip. There is still big herds around Bolongoja and Kogatende. Maasai Mara National Reserve is very wet and have been recorded to have lots of rain. All the movements in the Mara have been to the south despite the good rains and the graze. The Loita herds are still in the Mara Conservancy and seem they might hang there for lot longer.
