Welcome to our first #FeatureFriday.. As we gear up for USA Paraclimbing Paranationals next month, we want to take the time to introduce you to our A.C.G. Para Nationals team! Quemuel known as Q, was born in the Dominican Republic. Growing up he enjoyed swimming and hiking throughout his home country. At the age of seven, he relocated to Manhattan where he explored the concrete jungle, his new playing grounds. He found solace swimming Riverbank State Park. Q attended a NYC Outward Bound high school which introduced him to rock climbing. During his senior year, Q endured a spinal cord injury from a fall while downhill mountain biking in Vermont. After a few months in physical therapy, he got back in the pool and continued to swim. A year after his accident, he was back to climbing . Climbing and swimming make me feel normal. When I get in the water or up on a wall, Im just another swimmer/climber. I love sports, they allow me to set my own goals and challenge my biggest competitor, me. When hes not in a pool or up on a wall, you can find Q volunteering with hospitalized youth. Q enjoys scuba diving, sky diving, and is working on mastering sit skis.
