Well--there it is again. People all up in parents business. Im scared that parents will cling tighter to their kids after stories like this, instead of making a big noise protesting this ridiculous state-sponsored over-protectiveness. In fact, I just got out of a meeting today where we were talking about hot car laws. A law was created that we cannot leave children in cars (even when just hopping into a store for a second or two, and the kid is seven) when a grand total of 36 kids a year die in hot cars, nation-wide. I agree that this is very sad, but lets be logical about this--if were going to legislate things that kill kids, then we should keep them out of cars entirely. Over 900 kids a year die in car accidents. I am constantly astonished at the things we get worried about in our culture--we are so very emotional and data-starved in our decision-making. Anyone have any suggestions on how we can halt this rather alarming trend of police monitoring of parenting? Im open to suggestions, and will follow through with ones that can make a difference.
