Well, I didnt post anything yesterday for Wayback Wednesdays, so heres a few pictures with my Dad who, with help from my Grandma, raised me from the age of seven after Mom and Dad De-Vorced. I owe so much to this man, who dedicated his life to raising me and made it possible for me to pursue a career in Old Time Music. He was at nearly every show Ive ever played, save all but two in Virginia, from the time I was 12, up until he had a stroke in March of 2010. Some of our fans may remember that we put on a Bluegrass Festival for two years near our home back in 2012-13, and I was able to bring him to see both Festivals! It was something special to be able to see him sitting in the front row again and sing his favorite songs to him again in a festival setting. I miss his proud beaming smile when we play shows these days, at least I can come home and tell him all about where we played, what kind if crowd we had, if we sold many cds! Speaking of which, when we recorded our last two cds, we set up a studio in our basement and brought Dad in the room and he got to listen to us record some of his favorite numbers, which surprisingly enough werent Grandpas tunes, but were a couple of Carter Family songs; While the Band is playing Dixie and East Virginia Blues. Every time I go on stage with Grandpas old A.C. Fairbanks Whyte Laydie and his 1968 Gallagher Guitar, I have my Dad to thank for that. To be able to play this music that I love on those two instruments is something I appreciate more than he will ever know! One of these pictures shows Dad recording Grandpa and Ramona at our house around 1982, when they came down to play the County Fair, this was a scene repeated many times when they would visit and Ive learned dozens of songs from these recording. I have been blessed to have him for a Father, I Love You Dad.
