When I first started on our adoption journey, there were so many - TopicsExpress

When I first started on our adoption journey, there were so many questions, concerns and unknowns. I think one of the biggest concerns people have is can I really love this child as my own? As with any relationship, there maybe an instant connection like love at first sight, or it may be a love that takes time to grow. But yes, you will love that child because they become your own. But to be honest, I dont think the hardest part is a lack of love. I think the hardest part is the reality that some times your love isnt enough. Ive found that the road to helping a child who has suffered abandonment, abuse or neglect to heal .... is like a mix of Candy Land, concrete work and running a marathon. You have to embrace that it could be a very long journey with many days of taking 2 steps forward... 3 steps back. A few more steps forward, then a big slide back. All while doing your best to fill in those emotional holes and praying the cement takes hold and allows your child to have a steady footing for the times they might slide back again. We have our share of back sliding days around here, but I wouldnt trade this journey for anything. There are days when my love isnt enough, and it cuts deep. But I find peace knowing that Gods love is enough. He will help them turn curses into blessings. Gods love is meteoric, His loyalty astronomic, His purpose titanic, His verdict oceanic. Yet in His largeness nothing gets lost; Not a man, not a mouse, slips through the cracks. Psalm 36, 5-6.
