Well, I know that I do not post often enough. Sometimes I get time to read my friends posts but run out time to post. Tonight I post something that happened to me in the hopes of warning people to be aware and informed. Heres what happened: I received a voicemail telling me that this person was from the legal department of the IRS and I was to call him back because proceedings for mine and Toms arrest warrants were being processed! Of course, I called back to find what i had done. I was informed with very definite legal rules that I had underpaid my 2009 taxes, we wanted for tax evasion and stealing money from the government, and that several notices had been sent and ignored. I had not received any notices and, Tom reminded me after all the fiasco, we had gotten a refund(of course I was too afraid to even remember that). They were adamant and very convincing. They told me: 1) I could talk with their attorney general to get out of the fix, 2) the attorney general or head inspector said if I stayed On the phone with them, they could delay the warrants but if I disconnected they could not be responsible for what happened next, and 3) when asked how I might know if this was a fraud, they said that they did not ask for credit card info and said the federal government does not ask for payment over the phone. I had to assure them I could get the money, then I could not talk to anyone while on the phone, they even asked for my cell number so they could call me on it and I could not hang up at all or they would issue the warrant within the hour. I then had to travel to the bank, get the money somehow with a line of credit or out of my account (which I knew I did not have but was trying to find out how to proceed without going to jail), and could not tell the bank why I needed the money. In the very beginning I had Mandi call Tom and tell him to come home from work. He came home and I could only write notes to him, all the time believing we were in trouble. He came with me to the bank and felt it very fishy so he called our bishop, and he helped out by looking some things up for us, which resulted us finding out it was a scam. Keep in mind that I could not access any internet while on the phone or talk to anyone, including my children-which I informed them I had and could interrupt at any time. Please, please be aware of this kind of scam!! They had info on us that was easy to obtain, they use fear factor and they may have gotten money from us if it had been readily available to us. I feel exposed, violated, and not a little foolish. I am not a stupid person but they prey on people with threats of arrests and fear! If you anyone tells you that you cannot talk to anyone while they are on the phone with you, get very suspicious! My guard was down but I had pricks of suspicions the whole time. These people are good because they make you second guess yourself and what you think you know about the IRS. They had me crying and so nauseous-This was a terrible experience and if I can prevent others from experiencing it by sharing my embarrassment, then it will be worth it! We did report it to the local police and they said this kind of scam was popular at this time. The gal at the bank told us also it was a scam and to report it. I was still not convinced hanging up was the right thing to do until we spoke with the police and found out it was scam and there were no warrants for our arrests. 3 hours later and I am still sick to my stomach! Be aware and verify, double and triple check everything!
