Well, I meant to say this earlier this afternoon, about 5.....but I didnt get a chance......I had a generous conversation [they were very generous] with a friend who knows an enormous amount about disability forms and such, and being awarded disability, etc....she asked if I had disability, I said yes, I explained to her that I got it on my own, meaning I did not hire anyone to facilitate my process, that I did all the research and forms alone, I added so much, though, off top of my head, 48-62 pages, something like that, they kept telling me they didnt need these materials, I assured them that they did, or would later. I had heard so often, before, during and after the process, that I would likely get rejected the first and/or second time unless I hired someone to help. l didnt think it was anything I couldnt do, however, it did take LOADS of time, LOADS, I would say a full year of work hours.........full-time.......I caught errors on their forms and followed them through, to where they were fixed, it was the longest, most frustrating process, and youd run into people whod hold it up, and youd have to chase down almost everything to get it in order........and thankfully I was awarded, on the first try, though they did withhold my backpay, which I paid into as you do yours, it was considerable, but they didnt give it to me, I recognized that error, and followed that up, my friend said, You did that as well, on your own? I said, yes, no assistance at all, I fixed their errors on their paperwork by reporting the errors and getting the proper person on them in order to facilitate. I told her Id heard it was rare to be approved on the first try, she said it is more than rare. It made me happy to hear her inflection as well as her voice in regard to this....and her surprise that I did it solo. This is her industry, so to speak..........Im happy to say, the hard work and patience paid off, stay strong if you are in the same situation, where you run up against walls that would discourage you in the process of securing your disability. Thanks to my friend who spirited me through her interest and surprise, it made me think of Dad, for various reasons......
