Well I think we opened all the worm cans this week. I had been worried about the sloping floor of the bay window tacked on to bedroom three and it turned out my fears were well founded. The floor timbers are simply nailed at right angles to the bedroom floor joists and then rested on the outer wall in a sort of cantilever fashion. The addition of three large double glazed windows at some stage must have put enormous strain on the whole structure. So it all has to come down and be re-built which will be a time consuming project. The situation in the lounge bay is pretty similar—it’s only a single skin wall and water has seeped in, rotting the floorboards. The good news is that the roof isnt as bad as we had feared and should be cured by re-felting and re-tiling. On a more positive note weve been putting up partitions, installing plumbing and battening the loft ready for insulation and plasterboard. The electricians were happy to work over the holiday, so good progress was made there on the bedrooms. Total man hours so far 351 (not counting me), expenses £11,800. Unfortunately we’re losing Cath for three days in the coming week for an operation—we wish her a speedy recovery.
