Well I wasnt expecting that! No idea who wrote this 5 star review of the Mailman album on iTunes but thank you very much! This is proper music. What can you say really..? There’s not a great deal of it around these days. I’ve always loved Mailmans vocal- a truly unique tremolo-tone, reverberative quality, and it is well showcased here on this fine collection of well written and sensitively yet powerfully produced songs. Standout tracks are: Truthkiller- fantastic rocky tune with a foo-fighters bouncy vibe to it, and awesome chorus lyrically and musically, with a glorious climactic finale, great guitar work. Surely an anthem for all the “special kids” the world over. The Ones That Got Away- classic Mailman track, vintage songcrafting, clever and empassioned lyrically. Musically seamless and soaring. It would be quite possible to put this track on repeat for several hours if you’ve never heard it before. Traders- Lovely deep dark dubby chill out track, that takes its time to set the groove, with another powerful empassioned vocal and message. Think the middle eight loses the vibe temporarily a bit, but it soon returns for a memorable vocal inflection combo ending worth the wait. Mad Season- borrowing its title form another grungy/seattle reference, and with authentic justification, Mailman excels here in his ability to find unlikely vocal intervals and weave them into a bloody strong song. It retains a poppy sheen, whilst still rocking out and building throughout the track, and again, a vocal gem of a finale. Awesome. Half Hearted Highway- an heartfelt account of being a musician… instead of being in a boyband presumably? You could say the song suffers a little from the detail of the lyrics, but that would be missing the point really. Honest storytelling.
