Well. It happened. However, not totally as expected. With an 03 Nissan Frontier - 204k + miles and a diagnosed (last week) slow leak in the oil pan and broken seal (leaking oil) in the driveshaft, theres only a few things that the mind jumps to diagnose, when traveling at 70mph on I-77 south comin down Flat Top Mountain as you hear a *CLUNK* skkkkraaaapppeee A quick down-shift and a touch of gas confirmed that I was still under power - driveshaft? Not yet... Yup - the muffler bracket let loose and was impersonating a snow-plow (earlier than necessary) Still fresh in church clothes, I crawled under... (and well pause to let THAT vision settle in ) ...and discovered that I couldnt free the back end of the exhaust system so I could toss it in the bed. A quick check behind the passenger seat revealed a wire coat hanger SOOO back under I went and, yes, incredulous reader, wired the loosed end of the exhaust up against a horizontal brace, dusted off, jumped back in the truck and headed homeward. No tow-truck. No helpers. No cameras ;) Luckily, the truck is scheduled in for work tomorrow on that seal, and *now* exhaust work, with the oil pan on temporary hold. Kinda happy that the genetics still work. Dad was a mechanic ;) Im laughing at the mental images youre forming of me under the truck on the side of the road. Hope I can avoid a car payment a little longer... where are those spare coat hangers?
