Well....Mothers Day may have really been this past Sunday. But here on the ranch the epitome of Mothers Day is TODAY. We have a VERY special mare who has had her age and infirmities catch up to her this winter. We have had her in the barn all winter trying to keep her comfortable. It became apparent to us about mid winter that this would be her last foal and weve done all we can to assure a good outcome for her. BP Princess Lace aka Angel foaled a very healthy stud colt early this morning and all is well! Angel is a excellent mama who has now put 15 foals on the ground and everyone of them has gone on to be excellent family type horses. I had hoped for this last one to be a filly to carry on for her in our program and hearts as we only have one daughter of hers but not to be. This little stud colt will very possible carry on instead as a stud prospect for us. But wait...........headed to the mare pasture after checking Angel and lo and behold a new baby there this morning too..... out of Peponita Laceyed JW who is Angels daughter! MOTHER AND DAUGHTER HAVE FOALED THE SAME MORNING! And she has a little filly.... so in stead of a new daughter, we have a granddaughter from this grand old mare! Im sure to a lot of you horsey folks you will understand my tears of acceptance, sadness and joy this morning as to how these events have unfolded for this great mare and we accept and appreciate the circle of life. Angel will be well taken care of all summer as she raises this colt to weaning and then in the fall for her own mercy she will be put down. She is so very miserable but oh you should see her this morning. She is at her best as a new mama! Pictures of Peponita Laceyed JW coming soon as there was light in the pasture.
