Well... Post op was a success! Over all, Heath is recovering nicely. In fact, most days, we are in awe of Heaths ability to act normal. Recovering from surgery is one thing. But, watching Heath go about his days just 2 weeks or so post heart surgery is mind blowing. This kid makes me want to be brave!! How can someone so small and so young be such a hero to so many?! Below, are a few interesting pictures. The X-ray shows a fantastic image of the new valve working. The circle is the mechanical valve they installed and the straight bright line in the center is an image of one of the leaflets actually opened -doing its job! That is a rare image to capture on an X-ray! (The tight spirals are the coils made during his caths and the wider strands are the sternal wires that are holding his sternum together. Hes a walking hardware store!) The circular device that Im holding is the same model valve that was placed in Heaths heart. The white mesh around the edge is the part that physically gets sewn in place and the two sections inside work as the leaflets, pumping blood in and out. Holding that in my hand was overwhelming. Its still hard to grasp the concept that my baby has artificial parts installed that are keeping him alive! The image of Heath is the first picture taken after his bandages were removed. We still have some maintenance to do on the top of the incision, but Im beyond pleased and impressed with Dr. Forbess skilled handy work! The incision was done with such precision and his scar is so clean. We are always so happy with how amazing these doctors are! And lastly, I wanted to attach a simply picture of Heath just being Heath- looking so healthy and big! He is such a champ!!!
