Well...Ray and I have been [legally] married for over a week now. (But in our minds we have been married for over 12 years.) Lets see....what has changed?....ummm....not much! We still are in love and are committed to one another, were still sharing our lives together. So far, Tucson, the state of Arizona and the state of New Mexico (where we were married) have experienced no tornados, mudslides, earthquakes, tsunamis or any other sort of catastrophic event. Our home and neighborhood have not been swallowed up by a hole. We still interact with our friends, relatives and neighbors as we have done in the past. Our marriage has not had any outside effect at all. QUESTION: How has this changed anyone elses life in any way? If you can give an example as to how this has made your life different, for better or worse, please inform me. Tell me how your life has dramatically changed over the past week due to Ray and I confirming our love for one another by legally being joined together. Heres what HAS changed....We do not have to worry about setting up wills to protect one another, the life we have built together is more secure. Its more secure because we share community property and dont have to worry about the government coming in and taking 40% of our assets if something happens to one of us, due to the fact that we were not related. We have gained over a thousand equal rights that all other married couples enjoy. We were not given any special rights that trump the rights of any other American citizen. Everyone else is free to live their lives in the same way they were before we got married. We did not take away the rights of anyone else. The only effect our marriage has had is for us, and that effect has been for the better. We are happy, we are in love and we are secure in our relationship. I am not asking anyone to endorse, accept or celebrate our marriage. If it is in opposition to your beliefs, so be it; I am not asking you to change your mind. All I am saying is live and let live.
