Well! That was a long day. We didnt see the doctor until about two and a half hours after our appointment time. But we really enjoyed meeting him; he answered our questions and gave me several action items. He couldnt really confirm the diagnosis with the report UCI gave him and wants more information. He asked for the pathology slides and an MRI of Joes spine (we have several of his brain but none of his spine). So its back to UCI we go... I am so thankful Im off work for the summer (I teach part-time) and have plenty of time and energy to do all that needs to be done. (And thank you for your offers of help—I may be calling on some of you once fall kicks in!). Dr. Cloughesy (UCLA) will have the tumor samples tested for clinical trials to determine whether Joe is a candidate for any of them. I also spoke with our UCI oncologist today—he mentioned that Joe may be a candidate for the (one) clinical trial available at UCI. So theres some hope that something beyond the typical radiation/chemo will be available. Joe and I are trying to eat better. We have learned that refined sugar feeds cancer. The fact that hes willing to give up (or at least cut way back on) his beloved cakes and pies says a lot for his determination to do whatever is wise. I admire him for that. My sister Lynn is going to send me a juicer, so well be stocking up at the Farmers Market even more than usual! Were also learning about the many benefits of essential oils and some dear friends are keeping us supplied. Its a good thing we enjoy the scent of frankincense! We love you so much and are grateful for your concern and prayers.
