Well Tuesday Night was interesting to say the least. The shame here was the short memory of council members who did not have a clue about how RDA dollars were spent. Most of the dollars in the pot were derived from redevelopment accumulation of properties to put development together and to eliminate blight. Unfortunately we also need to improve the communications from the community to city hall with special emphasis on certain items. North PAC did such a wonderful job of removing the green monster, helping to build the West and North Stations that many forgot how we got there. They have already forgotten in a four years about how boomerang funds from North, West, and Central Project Areas saved the budget and so there was a recovery when the dollars came in. They forgot the brownsfield remediation in the 3rd District that turned into million dollar condos. The memory is so short that they think this is found money. They have forgotten the many years we did a trade off with the port to pay for the Aquarium bonds, and the 14 million from the North PAC to the Middle Harbor Project the list goes on. Yes, we complained that projects were not getting done. Yes, we were ignored. WE provided a strategic plan which was ignored and the years rolled by. Now in 2014 almost 15 a new council comes in and disregards the Port arrangements we had had, and I am not even sure of the 9.5 million used on the sea walls. Funny how that tax increment from the North could find its way into that mix. Funny how it almost always found its way into other areas with promises of return on our dollars that never came or never will come. So fighting for dollars and then asking us to give them up is what the city has been doing so continually keep the dollars and save other districts. Councilman Richardson and Austin tried to get the money returned but there is no conscience or understanding that the Northern portion of Long Beach isnt in the East side, airport or beach.
