Well, after attending tonights event, the following are my thoughts about the crisis in Kessab: The situation is as real as it can get!!!! No matter who denies it or ignores it, is an ignorant person themselves! The pictures, the videos, the live telephone conference to Kessab are ALL proof that this is very real!! It was sad to hear some of the stories of the families living through these difficult times. But, the saddest part was, from the multiple news/media companies, that were invited to attend tonights event to gather info and provide coverage to the public for an appeal for help, none of them showed up! Cowards! Its all politics! TV stations should not be biased, yet they choose to show what they want to show to the public. I just watched the news; was it really necessary to watch such a lengthy report of a horse that got disconnected from its carriage in Waterloo tonight or having to watch 3 wks of daily coverage on crash of Flight 370? We sympathized with the crash victims families but why cant a minute or two be spared for victims in Kessab? Are they not people too? We will break this silence, one way or another! We will not allow history to repeat itself (1.5 million Armenians were masacred in the 1915 genocide). Social media is todays advantage that we didnt have yrs ago! Lets use it to its potential and be heard that we want justice! Im happy to hear that tonight, close to $22,000 was raised to aid in humanitarian needs of the people in Kessab. You can do something too: 1. change your profile picture to the one attached 2. sign petitions on: ayfcanada.org/action-alerts/save-kessab/ (for Canadian residents) capwiz/anca/issues/alert/?alertid=63156801#.Uzir-YB5hVA.facebook (for US residents) https://secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/United_Nations_SecretaryGeneral_Ban_Kimoon_Prevent_Armenian_Genocide_in_Kessab_Syria/?dBMTjhb (for anyone worldwide) 3. Attend events in the near future relating to this issue https://facebook/events/1421151781470158/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming (protesting this Thurs Apr. 3 in Toronto and Montreal) April 24th – annual demonstration in Ottawa in memory of 1.5 million victims of the genocide 4. Donate funds 5. Repeat messages on twitter & facebook with hashtag #savekessab, #genocide, #armenians and #armeniangenocide to set trends and grab attention 6. Make your own decision based on the facts of the photos and videos that friends and I have posted on our walls and help us get through to the media for the much needed attention Violence is not acceptable! Schools teach students bullying should not be tolerated, isn’t this a huge form of bullying?
