Well, an eventful gig indeed last night! A good 5hr car journey - TopicsExpress

Well, an eventful gig indeed last night! A good 5hr car journey isnt the best prep for a gig but we had a giggle on the way and arrived safely yet tired. We unloaded, set up and sound checked, met the client whom were a lovely couple and they really looked after us. A fight then broke out between Dan and myself as she was given a room with the biggest bed known to man and a lovely living area too whereas I had a tiny room. She even sent me text messages saying she was doing star fish movements. Surely as the senior partner that room should have been mine? She even had chocolates left in there for her too. Still, after deciding that if we were to actually fight I would come out second best due to her heritage and place of birth (apologies to all scousers) I accepted defeat. We got ready and were treated to a lovely mini steak sandwich, and I mean mini but tasty all the same. It was all running a bit late but we did our first set and despite a few very drunken middle aged ladies heckling me specifically it all went well. Well, that was until we came to Danielle next up to sing I dreamed a dream.....I adjusted the levels on my PA and went to sit down to listen. The intro started and Mike the client popped over to say how thrilled they were but I could hear Danielles voice in the background whilst we chatted. The next thing I know I look over at Danielle who appeared to be doing the best ventriloquist act ever as there was singing but she was looking at me saying Jon....Jon.....JON! Well, it took about 30 seconds for it to register that Id added her recorded version to the playlist by mistake and had no other version! The audience were in hysterics as was I....Danielle? Not so much!!! That was balls up number one! Balls up number two came by adding the wrong backings to both Nella Fantasia and Nessun Dorma; both of which were in much higher keys to what we had practised too! During Nella I remember Dan looking towards me with a big smile yet saying Youre dead.....youre Sooooo dead! She did amazingly well as it was incredibly high for a mezzo and she made it sound easy even if she didnt think it would be or enjoyed the pressure it created. Revenge for the smaller room? I think so! Anyway, we are currently 90 mins into our 5 hr drive home after an early start and we were both starving hungry so just popped for a costa coffee, also being health conscious we opted for just the one Macdonalds breakfast wrap and extra hash brown each with back up supplies of sausage and egg wraps each for the rest of the journey :-) just another account of a typical day out for Bel Canto :-)
