Well as 2015 will represent 33 years since I first started my martial arts training I have decided to give a present to myself and set up my own martial arts association specifically to share knowledge regarding the art of Hojojutsu 捕縄術. This is something I have been talking about doing for a couple of years now, but for a variety of reason never got around to. Now before anyone asks, NO I am not quitting my roll as a senior instructor for the Junsei Ryu, Junsei Ryu and Hankyo before it have been a huge part of my life since I was a young lad, and I have no intention of letting that change. But at the same time, I feel the need to step outside of that bubble somewhat and push out on my own, focusing more of my study in what was one part of our syllabus. Also it means that any major cock-ups I may make in the future will be entirely mine, and wont reflect on Junsei. Before I go into any more details here I would like to give thanks to three of my martial arts friends, there are of course many others, but if I thanked every single person nobody would make it to the end of this post ;) Firstly I want to give special thanks to the man that has undoubtedly been the greatest influence in my martial arts career, and my instructor since i was a pre-teen, Ash McKee Sensei. Thanks buddy, its always been great to have you on-side (y) I also would like to thank Keith Morgan Sensei for his support of my teaching a couple of years back, at a time when many Friends turned their backs on me because of martial arts politics. He booked me to teach a Hojojutsu course at his Dojo in Rugeley, and not only because it was a great days training, the words he shared with me have had a lasting effect. Thank you. More recently I had the honour of teaching some Hojojutsu for Kevin Pell Sensei at his 13th Shochu Geiko martial arts weekend in Norfolk. The weekend was a truly great one, and im humbled to say that my Hojojutsu tuition proved to be very popular. Again, The support of people like McKee, Morgan and Pell sensei has been truly invaluable to me this last few years and I honestly cant thank any of you enough. Well I suppose after all this talking I should get to the point of this post ;) the group I have set up is called Kokusai Hojojutsu Kenkyukai (International Hojojutsu Research Society) and it is my aim to be able to provide a great networking / training methodology for students and instructors of Hojojoutsu. Im not going to say this will be a Non-Political organisation, because frankly I think thats bollocks! Like it or not, politics is and always has been a part of the martial arts. some clubs / Instructors simply differ too much in their methodologies and opinions regarding the martial arts, and its fine to feel that way. However, that does not mean we should be ruled by politics! nor should we let it unduly influence the opinions of others just because of the opinions of a third party who doesnt like something about somebody else! Its time we all grew up and started working together without the egos and elitist attitudes that have dominated the past! Lets make 2015 a year to remember! Thanks for taking the time to read this Taran
