Well, as some of you know, I have finally finished my bachelors degree! I started off in a program entitled Pre-Cantorial Studies, basically a double major between Judaic Studies and Classical Voice at the University of Hartford, CT. However, once I was several years into the program, there were only two students left in it, including me. Guess what? They cancelled it! Cowabunga? No, sorry to say. I shall have graduated with a degree in Judaic Studies, however, which is basically the same as Theological Studies, except that, while one doesnt always have to be on time for a lecture, there is, to be sure, a tremendous degree of guilt if an assignment/paper is more than a couple of weeks late. Akhhh, this is nisht git.... This coming November, there is an open house of sorts at my main choice for a seminary, called Hebrew College, which is near the Newton Theological Seminary. From what I have researched and heard, they have an excellent cantorial program there. One final thing to know about theological seminaries: From all of my friends who are ministers, rabbis, priests, and other clergy who have attended a seminary for ordination, the environment is full of debate, but the situation is calm and civil. Wouldnt it be great if congregational board meetings could be like this? Although I personally would hope that they would have some hummus and pita chips for a nice munch.
