Well, cinder-mumma only just made it to the hospital by midday today with a couple of appointments earlier. I tried to sneak in, but Mr Malin knows mummys voice and as soon as I said something at normal volume rather than whispering, he woke up and started grizzling for his feed. Another good attempt at breast feeding today with help from the midwife. He is doing well, but doesnt have the energy to do much sucking. I was in such a hurry on the way in, and had missed the morning round, so one of the doctors told me that theyve dropped him to level one calories, still with callogen add hes put on weight, 40g today. Id hoped hed put on weight as he had lost for a couple of days due to the change from cpap to highflow (hat washing). So that was great news. Anyway as I was chatting to the nurse, shes given me the update too, dropped down to level 1 calories as hed put on 40g. Hang on, not 40g, 140g! Awesome!!! 140g in a day, fantastic! What that means is that hes coping well with the current breathing support. Yes, his cpap hat is still in the wash (he is on the highflow). Even better, is that he is coping with the prongs not being in his nostrils half the time. They are much smaller and not so well secured as the cpap, so they often come out just with normal head movements while on his side. The feed didnt wear him out as much as yesterday and he was wide awake, so he had his second bath. It was just before feed time so he wasnt as impressed with it as his first one. At least this time nanna pressed record rather than just the cameras on button. Dried, clean clothes and nanna decides that shell try him on a bottle while I get to change the linen as his bed was grubby. Couldnt put a beautifully clean fresh baby in a dirty bed! For those people who keep saying that he looks like a normal, term baby, rather than a premmie... check out the scrawny little legs in the first photo. And that is having put on half a kilo!
