Well done Girls - You have made Siliguri & NBU proud ------------------------------------ For the first time in the history of table tennis in the region, a university team has won the national inter-university table tennis tournament. Assistant secretary of the North Bengal University Sports Board Bibekananada Ghosh today said the girl’s team of the university won the All-India Inter-University Table Tennis Tournament 2014, which was held at the indoor hall of the Sri Ramaswamy Memorial University in Chennai from October 4 to 6. “Our girls’ team, trained by ace trainer Debashish Sarkar and comprising Ankita Mitra of the History department of the university, Anushka Dutta of Siliguri College, Ankita Ghosh of Siliguri College of Commerce and Sayani Basu and Aishwarya Deb of the Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy Government College, beat Madras University 3-2 in the final to win the championship. The team qualified for the national meet by virtue of its victory in the final of the East Zone Inter-University Table Tennis Championship, which was held at Kalinga Institute of Information Technology in Bhubaneshwar from September 27 to October 1,” he said. Mr Ghosh recalled that in 2002, the girl’s team of their university had reached the finals but could not win the tournament. He said they would soon felicitate the winning team at the university.
