Saturday night´s performance by Nemian Danza Escénica from Mexico City started out solemnly and elegantly and ended up in a charming frenzy of dance by consummately prepared and attractive dancers. The Spanish theme carried throughout the show. This may have been the most fascinating and complicated choreography we have seen in this brilliant Festival. The flowing, billowing garment worn by the group´s wonderful elder member covered the entire stage in the first segment and she moved slowly to reveal from beneath the "dress" all the other members of the troupe. The dancers used stools and a door frame and swaths of fabric as they told the story. The costumes were also effective. All in all, another fantastic evening of contemporary dance, thanks to the Secretary of Culture and the State of Michoacán, as well as the Embajada de España en Mexico, INBA, and many, many other groups. Our friend Cardiela Amezcua, the director of the Secretaria´s dance department is especially to be congratulated for putting together this fine program.
