Well, folks have also been asking about me, so I might as well let you know about that too. Its true that this has been a rough 10 days or so. As tough as its been, these times always seem to dole out a healthy helping of perspective. You know, all of these seemingly tragic things have not happened to me personally; they have happened to OTHER people. These other folks just happen to be people to which Im connected in some way or another. Admittedly, I cant recall a time in my life when so many things have happened in succession like this in such a compressed period of time, but I have prayed for God to grant me the peace that surpasses ALL understanding and I believe He is doing that. I mentally went to a place that I shouldnt go last Wednesday night. I started asking the question, Why him and not me? I couldnt seem to shake it off. It was keeping me up at night. I finally came to the realization that I HAVE to give THAT over to God. Im NEVER going to know the answer to that question, because I dont possess the answers; however, Im very glad I know the One who does. Though my heart continues to be burdened, God has opened my eyes to the things for which I need to be thankful during a time like this in my life. Whether its Jeff Johnson keeping me company and giving me extraordinary words of encouragement on the phone as I drove back from Atlanta Monday night; whether its Lori Hetzel calling to check on me and Sammy several times a day; whether its James Rode riding down to Atlanta with me and forcing me to laugh under the worst of circumstances; whether its Leopold Central sending me unbelievable text messages of encouragement; whether its Pack Rat taking me to breakfast this morning; whether its Cynthia Lawrence making sure she came and offered me words of comfort as soon as she saw me; whether its Brittany & Ron coming to check on me; whether its knowing that people like Martha Shaw are praying; whether its Peter & Les sending me messages of encouragement and prayer, whether its Andrew, Todd & Lyndy spending unbelievable amounts of time on the phone with me just listening; whether its Clay letting me break down in front of him at home at night; whether its La Pearl, Thabang, Christopher, Alyssa & the rest of my church choir family always being a source of encouragement; or whether its the University of Kentucky Womens Choir always having my back -- ALL I KNOW IS, God has surrounded me with a tremendous support system upon which I can lean and rely, and for THAT, I know I am a truly blessed man and I am so THANKFUL. God will bring us ALL through this and we will be stronger on the other side!
