Well friends its hard to believe but I am about to move from New York after several decades plus of living in this great city. I want to thank all the wonderful people I have gotten to know during my time here. It has been a tremendous experience. Even though I wasnt born here I consider myself a New Yorker (as well as San Franciscan, where I am going back to). I have been lucky to have lived here and experienced the 80s, 90s, 00s,and 10s. A time of tremendous highs and lows. Some random memories of my time here The many people who helped create what today is a city that fully embraces its LBGT citizens Scrabble Sundays at Andy Tobias Charles Nolans Christmas parties Toys-for-Tots at Robbie Browns apartment The first Pier Dance The meatpacking district before Jeffrey The Works, Uncle Charlies, The Saint The gas station on 7th Avenue between 19-20th ACT-UP meetings at the Center Picking a specific time and corner to meet friends in the Village Fruitlessly looking for a functioning pay phone Peoples Express Airlines The Halloween Parade before it moved to 6th Avenue The revival of Fire Island in the late 1990s The Morning Party Drug dealers plying their trade in Central Park Union Square, Madison Square surrounded by boarded up buildings Subway cars covered with graffiti A half empty Yankee stadium during the teams championship drought years of the 80s-90s. The huge fans in the LIRR portion of Penn Station filled with beach goers in the summer dripping in sweet. Times Square before Disney The fire works displays commemorating the 100 anniversaries of the Brooklyn Bridge and Statue of Liberty. The industrial grittiness that once was Manhattans West Side below 59th Street. Bleecker Street before Marc Jacobs World Gym on Broadway and 67th Sightings of Jackie O and John John on UWS The resiliency New Yorkers displayed after 9/11 The blackout of the 2003 The opening of the Hudson River Park
