Well got out for a lovely ride yesterday in the sun. FINALLY got - TopicsExpress

Well got out for a lovely ride yesterday in the sun. FINALLY got to use my Pinlock Protectint insert in my new AGV K3 helmet. A brief history.....I bought a Bell Vortex a few yrs back because it was a nice looking helmet AND Bell was making the Transition lenses. They use UV rays to turn dark in bright conditions. BRILLIANT!! Only 2 manufacturers seem to be allowed to make the Transition lenses.....bummer. Pinlock is licensed to use the Transition technologies and did so to create the ProtecTint visor insert. I got one for Kim for Xmas a couple of yrs back. It does work. She said it wasnt enough and required sun glasses still but thought maybe she was just expecting more from it. Expectations and all not being met. I wanted a change in helmets and bought a really fancy painted Nolan Casey Stoner rep and one of the Pinlock ProtecTint inserts to give it a whirl. Added it to the visor and took off in the sun only to have it stay completely clear on me. Thought I had a defective insert. After several calls and e-mails I was told that many of todays shield manufacturers either use a slightly UV protective coating as in the case of Kims shield (hers only goes mildly dark) or UV protective plastic as in the case of my Nolan (it stays completely clear) so was quite bummed. I decided the Nolan wasnt a very nice helmet and came upon an AGV K3 to my liking so I bought it. Fast forward a couple months and yesterday I decided to drill the holes in my AGV visor and see if the ProtecTint would work in it. If nothing it would be added fog protection. Well let me tell ya.......the insert turned a nice dark shade and protects the eyes quite nicely!! It only takes a few seconds in bright sun to reach full dark and only takes a minute or so to return to clear in the darker conditions. It adjusts when riding in semi-sun and in longer periods of shade along Sea 2 Sky!! The insert is well worth the $85 or so it cost me as it can be transferred to any helmet or visor I end up with down the road and works great. Good thing AGV doesnt use any UV shit in their visors!!
