Well, here we go... I have given this an incredible amount of thought, and have reached a decision. I must say it wasnt easy. Foremost in my mind during this entire process have been my grand-children, and the America that they are going to inherit. As I thought of them, and what the future holds for them and this country, my mind kept coming back to things said in bygone years by better men than I will ever be. So, I got out my book of quotes, and started thumbing through it. Heres what stood out: A man torn between two things he believed in, and facing having to, through his actions, let history remember him as having supported something he found deplorable once said, I think it better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing, than to incur the reproach of our consciences and posterity. The same man also said In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an institution, is a moral and political evil in any Country. Many of you are probably thinking it was somebody like Abraham Lincoln or Harriet Tubman. It was not; it was General Robert Edward Lee, Commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, American War of Secession. I make this point so that anybody reading this post can understand WHY I quote the late General so much. Robert E. Lee was torn between the preservation of the union of States, and upholding the sovereignty of each State, as the Founding Fathers intended. Lee believed his FIRST duty was to defend the Constitution. So, when Lincoln offered him command of the Union, he thought long and hard about what he should do before tendering his resignation and accepting command of the Army of Northern Virginia. Duty is the most sublime word in our language. Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more, you should never wish to do less. The point is, Robert Edward Lee understood that each man must live by his sense of duty. He also said that The trite saying that honesty is the best policy has met with the just criticism that honesty is not policy. The real honest man is honest from conviction of what is right, not from policy. No words have ever been more filled with truth. Carl Christian Schurz, German revolutionary, American statesman and reformer, U.S. Minister to Spain, Union Army General in the American Civil War, U. S. Senator, and Secretary of the Interior said, My country (America), right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right. Can you hear the echoes of truth? And for the last 50 years or so, politically, shes been heading down the wrong path. Now, its time to set her right. The problem is, its a scary proposition for me. Not for my life so much, but of the responsibility. But, as Voltaire once said, Every man is guilty of all the good he didnt do. Confucius is quoted as having said, To know what is right and not do it is the worst cowardice. I have to say I agree with them both; when my sons became men, I told them, Theres only three things a man can take to his grave: His courage, his honor, and his conscience. Dont do anything to taint yours. I cant say that I have always followed that code; it took me way too long to learn it. Theodore Roosevelt, soldier, Nobel Peace Prize winner (when it was awarded for actual merit instead of WHO you were), and 26th President of the United States said, No man is worth his salt who is not ready at all times to risk his well-being, to risk his body, to risk his life, in a great cause. I NAMED ONE OF MY SONS AFTER THIS MAN! When that thought shot through my mind, I was overwhelmed with a sense of pride in the way that boy has stepped up to his responsibilities as a father and a man, and I realized that I dont have a choice in this matter; even though chances are that its a futile attempt, maybe I can manage to open peoples eyes, if not their minds. So, Im going do it; Im going make a try for the Presidency in 2016. My grand-children are going to be free, not living in NAZI AMERICA, not if I can help it. But... I cant do it by myself. Ill need help, because like I said, this is GRASSROOTS, and not only do I need a new, honest, patriotic Congress, I WILL NOT accept any kind of special-interest contributions; If I DO get elected, there will be NO favors owed to ANY person, corporation, special interest group, etcetera. If any PAC decides to back me, they neednt expect any special dispensation. It will not happen. So... Ill have to rely on the internet and word of mouth, because frankly, Im poor. But for me this is NOT about money, power, or favors - it is about our freedom, our constitution, and our security as a nation AND as individuals; it is about WE THE PEOPLE. Im going to draft an outline of my plan for fixing America and post it. It may take a while, because as we all know, theres A LOT that has to be fixed. Im also going to set up a page exclusively for campaign purposes. If anybody is interested in helping, let me know.
