Well if you had told me 5 years ago when I lived in my white bread world as a Town Planner that I would be addressing a medical marijuana debate arguing for access for patients like Lachlan next Saturday I would have thought you were nuts. How my world has changed. I have been asked to address this Medical Cannibis Discussion debate which is happening in the Library at Brisbane Square this weekend. They want to hear Lachlans story, why we think medical cannabis is a viable option for him, what it would mean to our family to have legal access to cannabis treatments for Lachlan and what denial of access means to our family. I am preparing my speech currently. The intent of this event is to inform politicians, policy makers, lawmakers etc of the need for action and why action is so desperately needed. A watch and see attitude from the LNP is not good enough. Before Lachlan got sick I was uninformed. I have had to become informed. I would say the majority of people who follow Lachlans Page fall into the uninformed category. This is not a criticism but the fact is unless you have to become informed on this issue there is not incentive to become informed. Apathy from the community is the biggest brick wall we face. We want our politicians and policy makers to take action. We dont want sympathy. I would urge people who follow us from high places and/or their wives, representatives or staff to contact me for a seat. This is an invitation only event. If you want to become informed please contact me I will endeavour to get you a seat. Likewise I would love the Toowoomba Chronicle and the Courier Mail to report on this event as well. We would like to know what Kerry Shine and Trevor Watts and John Mc Veighs stance is on this issue. We have been very happy with the support shown to our family by our local members and the Health Minister. without their help we would not have seen the improvements we have seen in Lachlan as we would never have got the brain surgery he had this year. we are incredibly thankful but this is a new issue taht we will face if he does not continue to improve. We would love to know where they stand. Trevor and John I can get you a seat if you want to attend. Ill even drive you down lol!! This is not a rant and rave session. It is real people like us discussing the real issues, debunking the uninformed myths that surround cannabis treatment for medical conditions such as Lachlans. What would you do in our situation. Would you do nothing when faced with seizures that have destroyed your childs life and continue to brain damage him or leave him at risk of death. Would you risk flying him to the US to access legal treatment there despite the risk of death to him of having a seizure mid air over the Pacific Ocean or risky bankruptcy if he had a seizure while in the US that put him on life support there.... or would you become a criminal and risk having your Child taken away from you to almost certain death as you know his high medical needs cannot be handled in a State care situation, or would you risk being charged by the police for giving your child cannabis oil or trying to import it from the US illegally????? What would you do?????? None of the options are good. We are law abiding citizens. The irony is I have one son who is an OP1 and Tuckwell Scholar and another who has been fighting for his life for 3 and a half years and cannot attend school. We are not criminals. The laws on this issue are out of date and wrong. At a minimum we should be able to legally import cannabis medical products form the US. There should be an amnesty for patients like us while the NSW trials and moves in Tasmania and Victoria to legalise these treatments unfolds. We dont have time on our side. Please help us. Please politicians inbox me and I will get you a seat. I would suggest you will see there is no option of sitting on hands on this issue... you will see action is required.
