Well...into every life a little rain must fall. And I always say - TopicsExpress

Well...into every life a little rain must fall. And I always say there MUST be balance. We had a wonderful inspection and lots of super people. I cannot thank Autumn St. Martin, Jos Mottershead, Lindsey Paul, Sheila Armstrong, Heather Renea and her mother, Theresa Stanberry and of course, the gingerbread man, Derick Stanberry enough. Without them, our inspections would be a phenomenal flop. With 25 horses inspected, and close to 100 degrees, it ran like a well oiled machine. The high scoring foal and site champion was Merry Widow dAvalon (Mannhattan x Faberge/Frohwind. Her new owner, Katie Copeland, is over the moon :). Super beautiful, type filly and this is a tried and true cross for us. Faberge is back in foal for a repeat and her foal two years ago was the raffle foal for Leg-Up Equestrian Assistance Program. Heather Reinkemeyer, Thoroughbred mare, Super Coxie (Out of Place x Legdrive/Holly Bull) was mature mare site champion. Gold Pixe Dust dAvalon (Goldmaker x Nic Nac/Ariadus) received Gold Premium, as well and her new owner is quite chuffed with having the foresight to purchase her within an hour of her foaling :). And last, but not least, we presented our two year old filly, Chanel dAvalon (Christ x Dixieland Jazz dAvalon/Don Principe) as we have a couple embryo transfers coming from her next year and one of those bebes will be born in Colorado. We wanted to be sure that everything was in place for that foal. We recognized that presenting a two year old is NOT the norm. But, she wowed the judges and was site champion young mare and awarded Premium mare award. Which leads me to the rain part of my post. Her mother, Dixieland Jazz dAvalon was to be presented RPSI along with her Edelweiss foal from this year. When we went to braid her foal (Dixie had been braided the day before) the mare presented SEVERELY ataxic. We moved her and her foal out into a pasture, as the mare was going down a lot. Vet came out and we did all kinds of treatments, tried determining what the cause was as it was sooooo fast in onset. At the end of it all, we euthanized her at midnight last night. Blood is being sent off, but we suspect tetanus, despite a regular vaccination program. Sometimes life just sucks. Thankfully, we do have Chanel and we will most likely keep this years Edelweiss filly. Thankfully, we have a lovely Percheron mare whos only job is to take on orphan babies. I brought her down last night when we thought this whole thing is not going to end well. She has already adopted her new baby and despite having no milk yet (Domperidone is ordered) she allows Emmanuelle to nurse.
