Well, it appears that SCOTUS (The Supreme Court of the United States) will be diving head first into murky waters without checking the depth. Walker v. Texas Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans has the potential to be as explosive as Roe v. Wade, or Miranda v. The State of Arizona. The Sons of Confederate Veterans requested a license plate from Texas with their name. The state turned them down because it could be construed as hate speech. The organization took it to the state Supreme Court and won. The SCOTUS agreed to review. North Carolina will almost for sure be sucked into it. The state legislature agreed to a license plate saying Choose Life but refused the plate Respect Choice. The ACLU took it to their Supreme Court and won. The state has to issue both or neither. The central question is whether a license plate is the drivers opinion (which would make it virtually inviolate) or government speak (which allows much more restriction). The state of Texas is afraid that if they lose it could open the door to the KKK or American Nazi party demanding their own plates. Personally Im always on the side of expanded freedom of speech. Severely limiting governmental and police control and expanding personal responsibility. As much as the police and government see regular citizens as retarded children we need more guarantees that we can fight back. George
