Well it has been a long spell since I last updated on Josies - TopicsExpress

Well it has been a long spell since I last updated on Josies situation, but that is partly because we had a long spell when it all seemed to be tiggidy-boo and nothing unusual to report, but then a scan indicated some necrosis (tissue death) in her right hand temporal lobe (which coincided with some small fits - absences), in the bone and the skin - all from the cyber-knife radiotherapy which had been used to try to get rid of the tumour once and for all when the opportunity unexpectedly arose. Also the small dot of inactive tumour in her lung had suddenly become 2 small tumours in one lung and one small tumour in the other. So for the Necrosis we had a meeting which suggested some really scary surgery to all of the above which was a big shock. We had questioned whether the team had actually fully conferred. It turned out less than was needed. Then using a new drug called Avastin was suggested which is used in treating some cancers and if I understand it correctly can regenerate tissue. So it has been decided that she should have this for the necrosis and to coincide it with another new treatment for the lung tumours called Sonic Oblation (a needle is inserted into the tumours and sound waves destroy the tumour). So between now and just after Christmas she is having 3 weekly Avastin treatments intravenously at Royal Marsden, Sutton and on this Wednesday she will have one lung procedure done under general anaesthetic at Royal Marsden Fulham which will be followed a bit later by the other one. Meanwhile she continues to be incredibly strong about it all for an 18 year old and is continuing with her life in her own inimitable way. The picture is on the Halloween theme in the shop she works in. She did a couple of Park Run a few weeks back is also going to the gymn and enjoying that and will be back at school in between. She is predicted A* for her Photography A-level and at least A for her Art with a History AS squeezed in if possible. A fully restored healthy Josie is all we really want of course. If you are the praying kind, please remember her over the coming months.
