Well last year I shared a little knowledge with my son as he went off to tOSU. This year is no different as I once again am sharing a little knowledge with the kids. Avon starts tomorrow for two, and the oldest starts next week at tOSU. So below is the text I sent the kids earlier today: ------------------- As schools starts tomorrow, I wanted to share a little knowledge with the gang that you can use throughout the school year. ---- Do you guys know how much a gigabyte of data is? Well let me put it in perspective for you. 1 gig is equivalent to 10 yards of books on a shelf, 7 minutes of HDTV video, or the encyclopedia Britannica w/o pictures. Yes, the whole encyclopedia Britannica in 1 gig. As an IT guy, you know Papi finds this kind of stuff fascinating. So if you have 100 gb, you could have 1000 yards of books, 700 minutes of HDTV video, and 100 sets of the encyclopedia Britannica. That would be a lot of data to consume in 1 month!!! Obviously if you did this for an entire year, you would have even crazier numbers like 12,000 yards of books, 8400 minutes of HDTV, and 1200 sets of encyclopedias laying around to read. ----- Why do we care what a gigabyte is? Well I called Sprint today to see what I can do to lower the $200 / month phone bill because that is just wrong and way too high. As the lady analyzes the data she begins to laughs at me saying “…as a family are consuming up to 120 gigs of data a month!!!!!...yes, 120 gig. That is 1.37 yard of books for each hour of the day – no sleeping fellas!!!! (or 0.34 yards of books for each member of the family on the bill – again, no sleeping). So how in the world am I not surrounded by three baby Sal-Einstein’s?????? I don’t know what more to say other than this will not continue – school starts tomorrow and the focus will be changing from whatever you are watching on your cell phones to school work!! Or you will lose your phone privilege. smh Ps - this message only consumed 2kbs. Ill share what a kb is next year, because that might be all you get if you are not pulling straight As.. Good luck!!
