Well own up, who had a hangover today? One thing for certain is that Beds & Bucks Hunt Sabs were fresh faced and chipper this morning after early nights all round and no bleary eyes to be seen. So what better way to spend a blustery winters day than to join our chums at Berkshire Hunt Sabs for the short trip (for us) up the A1 and drop in on the Trinity Foot Beagles. Hares are in national decline so how anyone can consider hunting these graceful animals is quite frankly beyond us. We arrived to find them already in the fields around North Lodge Farm between Leighton Bromswold and Old Weston. We deployed in various locations effectively surrounding them. The beagles briefly went into cry but this was soon stopped by sabs. The hunt then stood around or walked in circles looking bamboozled and not knowing what to do. The support was pathetic, with only a few bothering to turn up. The owner of North Lodge Farm became quite agitated. Sabs had to cover their delicate ears as her tirade of foul mouthed abuse would have made a sailor blush. She tried to grab a camera from a sab and got quite handy with her whip before finally being restrained by the huntsman. Perhaps thats a reflection on her private life? Something wed rather not consider! After some time mostly doing nothing the dogs took off at a high rate of knots, disappearing from view on the scent of a hare. The hunt staff completely losing control and unable to keep up had to jump into waiting cars to catch up. We joined the chase and caught up with them a short time later and saw a hare running for its life. We covered the scent and called off the dogs. Once again the irate woman abusing sabs and telling us to Go back to London and threatening to bury us in the fields. Our only thoughts were now for her safety, her blood pressure must have been off the chart! The beagles were now all over the place and it took the hunt staff a long time to finally round them all up before packing up. Another successful day for us with no kills.
