Well said, Well Duck Fans, yesterday went a little bit differently - TopicsExpress

Well said, Well Duck Fans, yesterday went a little bit differently than I had anticipated. I found myself sitting in a living room full of 5 former Cougs, 3 Viks and a couple of Huskies. Leading up to the presentation, the conversation was exactly what one might expect from a room full of pacific northwest rival sports fans. Typical jabs were exchanged and the rest of the room was ready to get it over with and hurry through Marcus average, boring interview. When Marcus took the stage and shed that first tear, the room full of shit talking, glory day reminiscing, testosterone fueled, rivalry debating Bros all turned in to 8 year old, dress wearing little girls. Not a dry eye in the house. Everybody knew exactly what this kid was all about. As sports fans, its not often that we get to see players with that type of talent mixed with that amount of humility. Marcus isnt the type of guy to give a headbanging pregame speech to get his team fired up and may not be your typical vocal field general that quarterbacks are usually expected to be. Hes the type of guy that doesnt have to say shit because every single one of his teammates, coaches and supporters already know how much he wants to, not only win, but win with/for those people. Marcus is the type of leader that you wanna go to war for because you know hed do the exact same and then come clean your house, help you with your homework and thank your parents for inviting him over. The type of leader whose teammates feel lucky to have the opportunity to even step on the same turf as him. Yesterday wasnt about being a Duck fan, Beaver fan or College Football fan. It was about a kid who is truly bigger than the game that he plays. A kid who accomplished the dream that he wrote down on a 4th grade homework assignment, to win the rarest and most prestigous individual award in all of sports, and still cant take any credit for himself. A kid who truly appreciates the people that have shaped him in to the human he is today and that gave him the opportunities to get there. As a duck fan I consider myself unfairly lucky that I got to watch this kid wear the green and yellow for a few years. Marcus doesnt have to win another game in his life in my book. The kid consistently wins LIFE and brings everyone around him to the same endzone. Ill leave you all with the postgame interview that I will always remember Marcus by. After the loss to Arizona you could see the pain in his eyes and knew how much he wanted to go back and change the outcome. You could see how much he hated losing for himself, but more for losing for his teammates and yet he still stayed on the field to meet the few kids that came to see their idol play. Marcus made everybody take a step back and forget about team colors/ championships and numbers and remember its not always about that stuff. Thank you Mr. Mariota and GO DUCKS.
