Well, that was certainly sudden. Heres a picture of the sun viewing plasma at temperatures of 1.8 million degrees & 18 million degrees Fahrenheit. Plasma at these temperatures reveal the large coronal loops seen as well as plasma that has been accelerated by solar flares. On that note, weve had an X1.0 class flare earlier today from a rather small region in the northern hemisphere, AR2017, though it had been firing off rather quick M-flares before this the past few days. The flare was accompanied by a CME but the bulk of which will sail far to the north of the ecliptic. Although there is a full-halo seen in the CME images so Earth will be affected, but minimally. High latitude northern lights expected upon its arrival sometime between 1100 - 0100 UT (7:00 am - 9:00 pm) on April 1st. Heres a gif of the CME I made: postimg.org/image/eggqkekrx/
