Well this is a rude awakening!!! Remember there was rain last night so there is ice under that snow! Be careful and watch for kids walking to school (some of them are walking in the ruts on the road) Here is what crews are doing today: This morning we are starting in the North East (86st 112 ave) with 2 Trucks, 3 Graders and a Blower. As is the procedure, we will be doing Priority 1 routes first. The current procedure is to place a windrow of snow along the curb and use the graders to create openings for driveways. We will then return with blowers to remove the windrow and blow it on the boulevard. The procedure is repeated for Priority 2 routes. The purpose of this method of snow removal is for two reasons. 1) Open the streets as quickly as possible for emergency vehicles, buses and safe routes to school. 2) By creating openings in the windrow for driveways community members are able to get in and out of their driveways without a large pile of snow in the way. The windrow is removed at a later date. Be aware of flashing yellow lights and heavy equipment working in your area.
