Well tonight was one for the record books!! 10 minutes before our big spring concert featuring band, choir and violin from Arlington and Lichen Schools, at the Mesa Verde Performing Arts Center the power on the entire Mesa campus went out.I googled it and it appeared that a vehicle had hit a transformer and there were power outages in Citrus Heights, Carmichael, and North Highlands. The custodian came and and said we had to evacuate the building. We regrouped and decided we would just make the best of it and have the concert outside. We sent students in an organized way...to get their music and stands and we would stand for the concert with no or accompaniment music or sound. Everyone cooperated and we proceeded to do the first half outside. It was miraculously very good. I think the angels were playing with them. I actually hadnt heard them play that well before!. I am sure it was also the wonderful alumni students that I had playing with them, former band students that have gone on to be accomplished musician and graciously come back and play with us at our concerts! They were wonderful! The power then came on and I chose to finish the program inside with lights, music and sound and thankfully so, because it was getting dark. It all went really well and we only finished about 15 minutes later than scheduled, which is a miracle in of itself. The custodians at Mesa are amazing and so is Lichens custodian Nathan who also came to help. I had some wonderful helpers like the amazing Mr. Ervin. The kids learned that when life gives you lemons you make lemonade. They rose to the occasion and realized the show must go on. Thank you to my amazing sound man Marc Cambridge from Cambridge Sound and all my wonderful students and my fabulous alumni players and their patient and loving parents. That was an experience they shall all never forget!!
