Well we finally got to hear the new sound of Formula One this - TopicsExpress

Well we finally got to hear the new sound of Formula One this weekend after months of waiting, and all I can say is errmm. We knew the sound would be severely muffled due to the turbos, but what is required now is the sound of the commentators to be turned down a touch during the TV feed so we can actually hear the engines again. This change in F1 was a golden opportunity for our sport of Moto GP to enhance its profile and make hay while the sun shines, but what did they do? - they sent the sport underground so no-one can watch it anymore. Now we are in a situation where instead of a TV audience of several million people in the UK enjoying the best motorsport series on the planet, they will struggle to get half a million. Bad news for the sponsors of the sport who will get a very poor return on their investment and surely review their participation in the sport. Formula One faced the same dilemma a couple of years ago, wanting to enjoy the increased revenue offered by Sky TV yet still be seen. The wisdom of Bernie Ecclestone (who has always realised that the sport MUST be seen by as many people as possible to attract the huge sponsor interest) saw a deal struck allowing a limited highlights programme to air on free-to-air TV of the races, making sure everyone was relatively happy. This is where Moto GP have failed spectacularly, and James Toselands view that this is the sports chance to go mainstream is severely misguided. How can you make the sport mainstream by taking the sport away from the mainstream audience? R.I.P. Moto GP - hope we may see you again soon in the afterlife.
