Well, we finished up our class on God, Time, and Eternity today! - TopicsExpress

Well, we finished up our class on God, Time, and Eternity today! I argued that in view of the superiority of the tensed or A-theory of time, God exists in time. I then presented three arguments for the finitude of past time. This presented us with a bizarre situation: God is in time; time had a beginning; God did not have a beginning. In some difficult-to-articulate way, God must exist beyond the beginning of time. I argued that the best way to think of this is that God is timeless sans creation but in time since creation. Like the singularity in standard big bang cosmology, God is causally but not temporally prior to the big bang. His eternal state is, as it were, the boundary of time and is, like the initial cosmological singularity, encountered by going back as far as one can in the earlier than direction. In order to create temporal creatures and relate to them God condescended to create and enter into time. In the incarnation He stooped still lower, taking on not merely our mode of existence but our very nature. Praise be to Him!
