Well, we made it through the half-way point of the challenge now. - TopicsExpress

Well, we made it through the half-way point of the challenge now. The Dream Team got together for the second time this past weekend in Des Moines. First we had a killer (and I mean killer) workout lead by our Team Lead, Shawn Johnson who is a great trainer. After I was left panting for breath and drenched in sweat we took a quick lunch break. I was VERY happy that they had some great Subway sandwiches for us plus raw veggies, a fat-free Greek yogurt Ranch dip, pretzels and apples.... not to mention plenty of water. I myself went through a LOT of water after that workout. Then Jen DeWall our team dietitian came in and we all had a group discussion about what eating healthy means to use. All in all it was a very good, productive meeting. The drive home was different. I hope I do not have to drive in white-out snow conditions again for a long time! A very important point that was brought up for discussion was about our long term goals - what do we want to achieve beyond just the 10 week challenge. We all agreed that this is something that we need to continue. That this is not just a quick diet or workout period. We are concentrating on learning skills to take us through the rest of our lives. I shared the good news from my cardiologist with the rest of the group. (My cardiologist saw me last week for the first time in a year, before I had started losing any weight. When I left I realized it was the first time that I ever left a cardiologists office and they were happy.) I also shared about my vision. It seems that with the diet, exercise and controlling my blood glucose levels and maintaining an A1c of around 5.2 caused my body to adjust the fluid levels in my eys and they have improved. Now with new glasses and contacts I can see better than I have been able to for years. So it shows that getting healthy can have benefits that you might not think of initially. I was feeling the effects of Saturdays workout all of Sunday. My arms felt about as useful as the tiny arms on a T-Rex. One thing I want to leave you with is to remember this is a FITNESS challenge. Not a dieting challenge, not a workout challenge, but a challenge to increase your health and fitness. Just small changes can have a big impact. So keep the faith and keep going!
