So the new Assistant Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has made plans to start charging online shoppers the GST for goods bought from overseas worth less than $1, 000 his first priority since his promotion. He says it will save Australian jobs. But it turns out the Victorian division of the Liberal Party of Australia has passed a motion calling on the federal government to refrain from lowering the threshold. John Roskam from the Institute of Public Affairs has told The Sydney Morning Herald - smh.au that the Government should drop the idea and start talking about standing up for consumers instead of adding to cost of living pressures for families. Not a good sign when your own side is flat out against you.
