Well, were lucky enough to have another world-class expert booked in for next weeks Learning Club! Professor Stefan Williams of Sydney University is the head of the Marine Systems group at the Australian Centre for Field Robotics, pioneered the use of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles in Australia, and is an expert in marine robotics generally. For those, like me, who hadnt heard of AUVs before this week, theyre robots that forage around the bottom of the ocean floor and collect data automatically, without requiring input from an operator. Neat-o! Come join us on Thursday 24 July at 6:00pm (no stragglin!) to hear about Stefans work in deep-sea exploration. As he is also an expert in robotic equipment used by cartographers, search and rescue teams, and the Defence Force, Im hoping youll have come ready with questions not only on oceanography, but also robotics generally.
