Well, what a fun evening out at Harrison Bay State Park! - TopicsExpress

Well, what a fun evening out at Harrison Bay State Park! Delightful conversation just hanging out watching the clouds thicken and thin and flow. Gentle breezes off the lake, some warm puffs and yet that little bit of a hint of a chill. Then as the sun was setting - whats that? Vega burning through high and proud. Then Arcturus puts in his appearance in the west. Scopes are out, alignments being dialed in. The lights begin to come on around the field, and Ranger Matt, with no small flourish, flips the switch and darkness descends again. The Summer Triangle is bold overhead, while Scorpius is chasing Mars and Saturn across the treetops. As the darkness deepened, a few small clouds drifted lazily overhead, yet as I gazed straight overhead there was another cloud visible, very still, faint yet readily perceived, arching across the sky. For the few folks who ventured over to see what was going on, perhaps their first glimpse of the Milky Way. I had a few folks hang out with Stephen and me, and we put the 12-inch on M31, M13, and M57 - a delightful sampling that were in great form. Zeta Lyrae, Mizar and Alcor, and Albireo were glittering jewels. Then some more clouds forming up here and there. Gradually they built back in and eventually covered the sky. But for a couple of hours it was just delightful. I am so glad I had faith and persevered, and thanks to Ralph, Harold, Peter, Matt, Micah, Daniel, Donna, and Jeanne for hanging in there too. Great evening!
