#WendyDavis currently trails her #Republican opponent, Attorney - TopicsExpress

#WendyDavis currently trails her #Republican opponent, Attorney General #GregAbbott, by 12 points in the polls, so the filibuster anniversary event could be an attempt to reignite some of the passion she inspired in voters last summer. What Abbott has really done is use the #TexasAttorneyGeneral’s office—and our tax dollars—to boost his career and protect his political cronies. Now, the selfish way Greg Abbott has tried to turn the legal system into his personal political toolbox is backfiring – badly. A new streak of embarrassing courthouse losses has made it clear that Abbott’s not just a self-interested politician – he’s a lousy lawyer. Greg Abbott’s arguments and tactics have been rejected up and down the legal ladder—from State District Court to Federal District Court, from Appeals Courts to the US Supreme Court. Greg Abbott’s latest displays of #legalincompetence: Federal Court Slams Abbott Federal Court opinions are usually written in flat legal language. But last week, US Federal District Court Judge Rosemary Collier (a Republican appointee) slammed Greg Abbott, stopping just short of calling him #incompetent. The Judge called Abbott out for “failing to respond” to opposing counsel’s legal arguments – something he should have learned in Law School 101. US Supreme Court Slaps Down Abbott’s Effort to Weaken #CleanAir Provisions This week, the US Supreme Court knocked down Greg Abbott’s latest assault on clean air requirements, tossing out his ineffective effort to limit regulation of dangerous emissions from industrial power plants. Justice Antonin Scalia—not exactly a liberal—said Abbott’s opponent “got almost everything it wanted in this case.” Abbott Effort to Remove Judge in #PublicSchool Case “emphatically” Turned Down Greg Abbott’s expensive attempt to defend the 2011 GOP Legislature’s massive $5.4 billion cut in public school funding has failed at every legal level. But rather than settle the case and save Texans’ millions in legal fees, Abbott decided to try to dump the judge he fears will rule against him. Slapped down again this week, Abbott’s weak and cowardly argument against the judge was denied “emphatically.” Former Employee Wins Key Ruling Against Abbott In another embarrassing decision last week, a former Assistant Attorney General suing Greg Abbott for firing her after she refused to lie under oath, won the right for her case to go forward. A State Appeals Court ruled that Abbott’s argument had no basis in fact. After years of litigation and thousands of #wastedTexastaxdollars, Abbott is back where he started- facing an angry whistleblower who claims he tried to force her to lie. Abbott Wasting More $$$ After Losing #Whistleblower Ruling Yet another whistle blower case, this time out of El Paso, pits Abbott against a nearly 30-year employee who was fired after reporting wrongdoing by a co-worker. A jury awarded the worker $1.2 million. Rather than accepting the verdict, Abbott says he’ll appeal – costing Texas even more money to defend what appears to be another valid complaint against Greg Abbott’s office. You don’t have to be a #Democrat to see that Greg Abbott is a lousy #AttorneyGeneral with a long legal losing streak – a combination that’s cost Texans millions each year – and left our state without a strong advocate in court. If he were your attorney, you’d fire him. Greg Abbott’s performance in office calls for a pink slip, not a promotion.
