Went food shopping -- oh yeah -- stupid me on the afternoon of New Years Eve! Shop Rite was my prime target. I got a nice pork roast and sauerkraut which satifies the German/Eastern European me for good luck for the New Year, but was rather appalled to see that hams were NOT on sale and were pricy, so I abandoned the formerly married to the son of a Southerner mes usual New Years ham and blackeyed peas -- although I did get some dried blackeyed peas. No frozen fresh BEPs, which I prefer. Once again, I should have planned ahead. I had told my mother that I was going to get some smoked neckbones to make lentil soup -- but again, bad planning! There were NO smoked meats to be found -- no smoked pork neckbones, no smoked turkey wings or tails, and as I heard a couple of people ask for -- no pigs feet or salt pork/fatback. I swear that a person could get rich just selling all manner of BEPs, and the smoked meat to cook them and greens with! You could literally sell out of the back of a truck in the parking lot for three days at the end of the old and beginning of the new years and get rich quick. Then I made a quick trip to Giant, as they carry the Dawn dishwashing antibacterial liquid that I like that Shop Rite doesnt... likewise my favorite cocoa which Giant often has on sale. And then I found that THEY had a nice ham on sale and miracle of miracles they had fresh BEPs -- and field fresh and NOT frozen -- even better. And they had smoked sausage on sale. Sometime this weekend, this crazy white gal is gonna start a new tradition --dried BEPs made with kielbasa -- paying homage to both the Eastern European and Southern Cookin mes! And Im doing it this next year, too! And guess what -- having some nice ramen noodles with ground beef and Chinese greens tonight and as I am not going out -- I have all I need to make a nice Bloody Mary!
